In a significant development for Nigeria's tech ecosystem, MainOne, a private company that built a tier III data centre and landed a submarine cable, has completed its integration with Equinix, a global data centre company that acquired MainOne in 2022 for $320 million. The integration marks a major milestone, with MainOne employees set to receive pay bumps in March 2025 after signing new contracts.
The acquisition has enabled Equinix to expand its operations in Nigeria, increasing the number of data centres from two to five, with three new data centres currently under construction. The company also plans to grow its fibre cable network in Nigeria's South-South region.
This development is a testament to the growing recognition of Nigeria's tech ecosystem, with MainOne's exit providing a wake-up call for competitors. The integration is expected to drive further growth and investment in the region.
