SF's Fixer-Upper Frenzy: $299K Fire-Damaged Home Draws Crowds

In a bizarre display of San Francisco's scorching real estate market, a fire-damaged shack priced at $299,000 drew over 20 potential buyers this past weekend, according to The San Francisco Standard.

The "fixer-upper gem" in one of San Francisco's southernmost neighborhoods was previously inhabited by squatters before it caught fire, and buyers were required to sign a liability waiver before touring the property. Despite its condition, the real estate agent expects the property to fetch more than its asking price.

This phenomenon is not new to San Francisco, where even dilapidated buildings can command a small fortune. In early 2022, a 122-year-old Victorian marketed as the "worst house on the best block" of San Francisco sold for nearly $2 million, underscoring the city's intense demand for housing.
