Just days before the US Presidential election, AI search company Perplexity has launched an Election Information Hub, leveraging its AI search engine to provide voters with crucial information. The hub offers AI-generated answers to voting questions, summaries of candidates, and will track vote counts live on Election Day, utilizing data from The Associated Press.
The hub's voter information, including polling requirements, locations, and times, is based on data from Democracy Works, the same group that powers similar features from Google. Perplexity's election-related answers come from a curated set of trustworthy and informative sources, including Ballotpedia and news organizations.
While the hub aims to provide accurate and reliable information, it's not without its challenges. The AI summaries have shown some errors, such as failing to mention a candidate's withdrawal from the race. Despite these issues, Perplexity's initiative marks a significant step in using AI to serve critical voting information, an area where other AI companies have been hesitant to venture.
