In a move to simplify the process of regaining access to locked social media accounts, Meta has introduced a new facial recognition tool. This innovation allows users to recover their Facebook or Instagram accounts quickly and securely, eliminating the need to upload official identification documents.
The new system, which was previously discontinued due to privacy concerns, uses video selfies to verify identities. Users can opt for a code sent to their phone or email, or choose to send a video selfie, which is then compared to their profile picture using facial recognition software. The entire process takes only a minute, making it significantly faster than the previous method, which relied on human review.
Meta ensures that the video selfies are encrypted and stored securely, with facial data automatically deleted after comparison, whether it's a match or not. This new tool not only saves time but also provides an additional layer of security, making it harder for hackers to abuse the system.
