Leland Raises $12M to Expand Coaching Platform

Coaching platform Leland has secured $12 million in Series A funding led by Forerunner Ventures, with participation from GSV Ventures, to expand its platform that connects users with expert coaches for various goals and skills. The startup, founded in 2021 by John Koelliker, a former product manager at Uber and LinkedIn, has raised a total of $17.1 million in funding to date.

The platform has experienced steady growth, with revenue increasing fourfold in the past year, and has conducted over 50,000 coaching sessions in the last 12 months. Leland currently has more than 100,000 users from 70 countries, with over 1,000 coaches across different categories. The startup aims to build better tools for coaches to create content and manage their schedules, as well as expand its enterprise offering.

Leland's platform structures the onboarding process for coaches to ensure they clearly identify their areas of expertise, and also offers courses and events where people can take part in groups. The company vets the supply of coaches strictly, with only a 5% acceptance rate, to ensure high-quality coaches. With this new funding, Leland plans to invest in its enterprise tooling and expand its category of goals and coaches to reach a broader audience.
