Apple Wins Patent Fight Against Masimo, Awarded $250

In a mixed victory, Apple has won a patent infringement lawsuit against medical device maker Masimo, with a federal jury awarding the tech giant a mere $250 in damages. The jury found that Masimo's W1 smartwatch, Freedom smartwatch, and health module infringed on one of Apple's patents, while Masimo's charger infringed on another.

Although the damages awarded are minimal, the verdict is significant in the ongoing patent battle between the two companies. Earlier this year, Apple was forced to stop selling certain Apple Watch models with blood oxygen features in the US after an International Trade Commission ruling found that Apple had infringed on Masimo's patents for pulse oximetry. As a result, the recently-launched Apple Watch Series 10 lacks these features.

Apple's win may be seen as a moral victory, but it's clear that Masimo's earlier win has had a more significant impact on Apple's business. The patent battle highlights the intense competition in the wearables market, where companies are fiercely protecting their intellectual property.
