Amazon has announced the launch of X-Ray Recaps, a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to generate concise summaries of TV shows, without revealing any spoilers. This innovative feature is designed to save viewers from accidentally stumbling upon major plot points while searching for a summary of their favorite shows online.
The X-Ray Recaps feature is an expansion of Amazon's existing X-Ray feature, which provides additional information about the cast and other trivia when users pause the screen. The new feature uses a combination of custom AI models, built with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, to analyze video, subtitles, and dialogue to describe key events, conversations, and other information.
X-Ray Recaps is currently in beta and available only to Fire TV customers in the US, with plans to roll out to additional devices by the end of the year. The feature is initially available on all Amazon MGM Studios original titles, including "Daisy Jones & the Six," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "The Wheel of Time," and "The Boys." This move comes as rival Google TV releases its own AI-generated summaries, highlighting the growing importance of AI-powered features in the streaming services space.
